Lynne Swingen

Lynne Swingen started taking piano lessons at the age of 5 and studied for many years before and after college with Alice Davis Berryman in Omaha. She began teaching students of her own in high school and has continued teaching for almost 40 years.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in General Music Education from Hastings College where she studied the piano with Dorothy Tirrell and Willem Van Overeem and had master classes with Audun Ravnan and Gary Graffman.

Lynne has enjoyed many forms of musical performance as a pianist, singer and accompanist with various school, community and church choruses, instrumental groups, and theater organizations including barbershop quartets, Nebraska Choral Arts Society, Voices of Omaha, Soli Deo Gloria Cantorum, Ralston Community Theater, and the Jewish Community Center Theater. She currently plays piano/keyboard for several worship services each week at two retirement villages and a church.

She enjoys working with students of all ages and musical backgrounds and specializes in tailoring lessons to each individual’s abilities and interests, stressing a solid classical approach to piano study which includes technique, musicality, theory and performance. Lynne shines with beginning students, providing a solid foundation for musicianship and piano playing, as well as advanced students, giving them new ideas in technique and interpretation. She teaches several adult students who have fond memories of childhood lessons and are thoroughly enjoying revisiting and refreshing their musical skills.
