2012 Winter Festival Orchestra
Omaha Conservatory of Music (OCM) is hosting its 3rd annual Winter Festival Orchestra (WFO), presenting David Barg as the conductor. WFO is an intense and FREE weekend experience for all advanced string players. The repertoire for the group will be chosen from the standard string orchestral literature. Rehearsals will start on Thursday night and run until Saturday late afternoon.
The concert is a culminating event for OCM’s program Nebraska Roots and will be held on March 24th at the Joslyn Art Museum will be open to the public and free of charge. The Final Concert program will include an authentic performance by the Omaha Indian drum circle of each transcribed melody, St. Augustine Mission School students performing pieces studied in OCM’s outreach program, OCM students performing the commissioned works and the Winter Festival Orchestra. The works premiered on this concert will also be professionally recorded in a studio to create a final codified version of the project for further educational purposes in other programs interested in studying this indigenous music.
