How to apply for a merit scholarship

Merit Scholarships are awarded once per academic year, and are based upon the student’s demonstrated proficiency, disciplined music study habits, and commitment to excellence.

TO BE CONSIDERED FOR MERIT SCHOLARSHIP, CURRENTLY ENROLLED STUDENTS WILL BE ASKED TO UPLOAD AUDITION VIDEOS TO THEIR RE-ENROLLMENT PACKET PRIOR TO SUBMISSION, NO LATER THAN MAY 18, 2020.  FAMILIES WILL NEED TO LOGIN TO THEIR PARENTSWEB ACCOUNT ON THE FAMILY PORTAL OF FACTS. 

ONCE THEY HAVE ACCESSED THEIR RE-ENROLLMENT PACKET, THEY WILL FIND THIS QUESTION IN THE STUDENT INFORMATION SECTION: "ARE YOU PLANNING TO APPLY FOR A MERIT SCHOLARSHIP?"  IF SO, CHECK "YES." THEY WILL THEN BE PROMPTED TO UPLOAD THEIR AUDITION VIDEO LINK INTO THE NEXT FIELD. QUESTIONS MAY BE DIRECTED TO DIANEOWENS@OMAHACM.ORG

PLEASE NOTE: Students applying for Merit Scholarships may also fill out our Financial Aid Application Form, as some scholarships require students to demonstrate financial need. If a student is not chosen as a Merit Scholar, they may still receive need-based financial assistance.

How do I submit a recording?

Our application requires you submit a YouTube link to your video audition:  

1. Record a video (up to 5 minutes in length) of a performance of a piece from memory. (NOTE: Recitals provide an ideal opportunity to obtain this recording.)
2. Upload the video to YouTube, and label with the name of the piece, movement, composer, and student name.
3. Mark the video as “Unlisted." 

What happens next?

Once a Merit Scholarship application is received online, the student’s teacher will be sent a link to a form where they will be asked to evaluate the student and write some brief comments.

When will I know whether I received a scholarship?

Merit Scholarship winners will be announced by Aug. 1. They will be expected to prepare short selections from memory (3-5 min) so they are ready in case they are invited to perform at a few special events during the year, dates to be determined.
